Empowering Global Citizens

How do we help students work effectively with others from diverse cultural backgrounds? How do we help them understand the world? How do we prepare them for work and life in an era of globalization, volatility, and uncertainty? Our focus on global education offers  compelling answers to those questions. Each year our learning culminates with educational service projects and a global citizen fair.

Our Valor Kindergarten and Pre-K program will be filled with fun and learning.  We are thrilled that the Lord has called us to be a part of our global community, where we will seek God’s truth, wisdom and love to impact the world for Christ! Jesus will be at the center of all we do, so every day will be full of love and adventure.

God created us all unique in love and to serve as the varying parts of the body of Christ.  Our class will celebrate our differences and adjust strategies to meet the needs of each child. Our time together will spend most of the morning engrossed with Language Arts utilizing the research driven Lucy Calkins and Sitton Spelling curriculum. This will encompass learning our letters, sounds, reading, handwriting and spelling. We will also be integrating Science and Social Studies into what we are learning. We will spend our afternoons with Bible, Bridges  Mathematics, Music, Art, Physical Education, and Computer Science. We are excited to have a year full of learning and working with each child to help them reach their fullest potential.

First grade will be an amazing year as we look at God’s word and use it to understand the world around us.  Our classroom will be focusing on having students learn about the many gifts that God has given to us including the ultimate gift of Jesus Christ. We will also be working on learning about the life of Moses through the book of Exodus.

Academically, our math classes will focus on counting, place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Students will work on developing these skills using practice and modeling. In science, we will be focusing on how we see the world and the amazing phenomena we can observe with hands-on labs and great field trip experiences. We are excited to incorporate our science ideas into other class topics too including reading and writing. Students will start out the year building on their reading skills and by the end of the year we want to promote expert readers and working through chapter books. It should be a fun year full of learning and God’s word.

Second grade will be an amazing year as we look at God’s word and use it to understand the world around us.  Our classroom will be focusing on having students learn about the many gifts that God has given to us including the ultimate gift of Jesus Christ. We will also be working on learning about the life of Moses through the book of Exodus.

Third grade will be a wonderful year! During our year together, we will be focusing on our walk with God. Students will learn about Abraham, Jacob, Joseph, and Daniel and how even though they faced rejection, they remained faithful. We will be using these individuals as inspiration for our own life and our personal walk with God.

Our third grade classroom will also foster an environment for creating an enthusiasm for reading! When students enter third grade we will work on reading to learn and also building an attitude of reading for enjoyment. Students will also be working on both multiplication and division in our math classes, building the necessary skills to support their math learning as they mature. Our history class will be covering US History with a Christian perspective as we walk our students through 400 years of amazing events. We will also incorporate music, art, technology, and PE into classes. It will be an exciting and fun year in third grade!

Fourth grade is an exciting year! We will be looking at our lives and how God can build them into castles that are monuments to His grace. Students will discover God’s redemptive love by studying the life of Christ and the ministry of Paul. We will then be applying this to our own lives and our personal walk with Jesus.

Academically, it will be a year full of learning and challenges. Students will be using Bridges Math to work on learning new concepts like geometry with spatial relationships and readiness for algebraic reasoning. Reading and writing will be a big focus in our classroom this year. We will be working on how to write fiction stories with believable characters. We will also be working on personal and persuasive essays, where students learn how to organize their writing and gather evidences to form and express opinions on topics. We will then apply our writing into our history topics about the United States as we learn about the founding fathers and how we have developed as a nation. Overall, it will be a great year in fourth grade!

Fifth grade is an exciting year and will be a year of growth both academically and emotionally for our students. We want to challenge the students academically but also to help them grow as learners. By the end of the year, we want to develop them into a group of strong leaders who love Jesus and purse him wholeheartedly. A few examples can be reflected in our classroom leading ‘reading buddies’ with each Elementary class, leading Family Chapel and aiding in the classrooms. We will also be going on several local mission trips to serve within our community.

In the classroom, we will be learning knowledge and skills to prepare the students for sixth grade. Practicing typing skills, developing educated opinions, working in literature groups, expanding note-taking skills, and improving research techniques are just a few of the skills that we intend to explore and enhance during our year together in fifth grade. It will be an exciting year full of growth for our fifth grade students!
